Monotonicity and Systemic Productivity

how to grow yourself over time by having a repeating and monotonous approach to certain problems

Why the need for monotonicity?

As humans, we live hectic lives and face challenges on a daily basis. It is very natural for us to get as much mental and physical comfort as possible while also being productive. But, we fail to be consistent because we take different kinds of decisions in different situations and we have no system that can guide us in a uniform and principled manner. When I read about how the founder of the world's biggest hedge fund company Ray Dalio achieved success in his book called "Principles", I understood the need for set rules in our lives. These rules will guide us in almost every situation and over time we will be refining those rules(or making new ones) to make them more effective.

But I differ a bit

For me, having principles doesn't seem very fancy, my approach is inspired by the writer of the best-seller book "Atom Habits" James Clear. He mentions in his book that instead of having goals in our lives, we should be focusing on making systems that can help us achieve those goals. This is a little different from Ray Dalio's principles idea, cause principles are set rules whereas a system can be just anything. We shouldn't be focusing on results, we should keep working according to the system that we have created. This process is going to be monotonous and every day there will be a few things in our lives that we will have to perform according to that system.

I don't believe that we should put everything into the system and let our lives be controlled by the system. The only outcome of this approach is to rid ourselves of making decisions daily and focus mainly on the work that has already been outlined considerably.

Final knowledge chest

Life can only be changed through work and not just by thinking about work

I know, that you have probably heard this a million times in your life, but this article is not for motivating you to just take a step and become successful. No mantra can take you from 0 to Hero and no system makes your life a strawberry world. You will have the look at things from your perspective and build your life through your experiences. The approach that I have talked about above, is only a tool you can look at to simplify your life and increase your productivity(with hard work ofc).
